It’s COLAB Time!
To those of you looking for an internship in the advertising world, guess what? COLAB time is here again…
I participated in the inaugural 2008 group – wasn’t sure what to think going in, but it was the best six weeks I’ve spent during a summer – collaborating with some of the most forward thinking, techno-savvy, inspiring people.
Oh and plus you get to spend the summer in Portland. Which, I would have to say, it perhaps the best places in the States to spend a summer.
Anyway, COLAB asked us to create a video talking about our COLAB experience…check it out, then go apply. Now. Do it!
Why Do You Always Take Pictures?
At an event this afternoon, I saw something that caught my eye, so I snapped a few pictures. Business as usual in my vida diaria.
However, the person sitting next to me turned & asked: ‘Why do you take pictures of everything?’
My initial response (which I elected to keep to myself): “Why DON’T you take pictures of everything?’ …ZING! [...sometimes the 'answering a question w a question' method just works oh so well...] (;
ANYWAY, this question really did get me thinking…hmmm…I know why I take pictures + document everything …but how do I explain this succinctly to others??
…and then all of a sudden the rain stopped, the clouds parted and *dun dun dun dun* – I came across some Keri Smith greatness while searching Amazon…nothing short of a Christmas miracle!
Love me some Keri Smith (super smart, creative, brainiac-y woman) so because of this & because what she said basically summarizes my thoughts…there’s no need to write it twice. Here you go:
Finding Inspiration
Doesn’t it feel nice to find inspiration?
I love all of the creative energy here in Austin. It really does inspire me as an musician BUT, also on the planner / creative strategist, cultural anthropologist, ethnographer level.
A few weekends ago wI wandered around the east side, during E.A.S.T. (East Austin studio tour). There were 175 studios, galleries, and exhibition spaces featuring around 300 artists…and it was absolutely wonderful!
Here’s a map of the entire shindig:
WOW. Alot going on!
Took some photos (of course)…
Handmade / bound journals. The woman learned in Italy. And is from the NW!
Studio in a guy’s backyard / garage:
Screen printing!
IDEAS: (reminds me of Leonardo DaVinci!)
MAS ideas:
view of some of the studios from a 2nd floor studio:
Wood art. Wart?
GRAFFITI! We all know how much I love graffiti. (=
Installation art studio:
All in all, a solid Sunday afternoon, full of inspiration. Not too bad.
Keep Failing, Parte Dos
Remember last year when I blogged about the awesome experience I had with Firefox failing?
Welp, YouTube just failed on me…and it was awesome. Nerd alert perhaps, but I love getting a fail message that literally makes me LOL. …and yeah, I did just say / type that.
Anyway, here’s the YouTube fail message I got. Love how brands are slowly but surely are starting to reflect more humanistic traits. People trust people more than machines so strategically, it just makes sense.
