Dylan’s army is heading south?
Leaving Brainerd today, I had an intense rush of eROI/Old Town deja vu when I noticed an army guy guarding the Allen Hall evacuation plan:
Dylan, have you been deploying troops down to Eugene…perhaps continuing the waging war on the drug dealers…?
cre8camp
Yesterday was cre8camp. Fabulous!!! Everyone was wonderful, Bram and everyone who organized the event did a fantastic job!! There were people there from all sorts of backgrounds but they all came together because they like to collaborate and get the creative juices flowing!! The topics were interesting (and of course, because the conference participants brainstormed the topics to be discussed). Check out some pictures from the event!!
Most importantly – the sponsors who made this event happen:
Also, thank you to souk for providing such a great location!
cre8camp session topics:
people were tweeting so much, at its peak cre8camp was the 2nd most common tweet in the wold!!
One of the first sessions:
technology trend spotting session:
lunch is a great place to network! (and thank you Elephant Deli for providing wonderful food!)
Christine and I got a chance to catch up with Garrett from eROI:
Bram and Amber are fabulous!!!
All in all – great event- thanks guys!! For detailed info, links, notes, tweets, etc. from the event, check out the cre8camp twitter!!!
here’s what up at eROI
As many of you know, I posted a blog asking, what the heck is up at eROI? Well, my two weeks at eROI are now over, and I still have not reached any solid conclusions. However, I did document what I found:
Here is the first sighting in Dylan’s office:

On the upper ledge on the landing to go downstaires:

On the ledge right before going downstaires:
Right inside of the front doors:
2nd floor landing:
3rd floor landing:
I first saw the army guys in Dylan’s office, but then they started popping up everywhere!! Stairwells, counters, ledges etc. I tried to figure out why these guys were around…decorations? ambiance? Dylan’s sneaky and subtle attempt to take over the office (kidding!)? Hmmm I’m still not sure, buy after while I felt like I was on a constant easter egg hunt looking for these little guys around the office!
Ideas, anyone? Answers? Explanations?
something’s up here at eROI
There’s something going down here at eROI and I haven’t quite put my finger on it. BUT, I have been noticing patterns.
It began in Dylan’s office. Then it was in the stairwell going down. Then it was in the landing. Then it happened twice in the stairwell going up. The most recent encounter happened as I went to fill my water bottle. I’m still trying to put the pieces together, but I still can’t make sense of it all.
Curious? Me too.
whatever I can pull from the crazy whirlwind in my head
Since the second I walked into the Turnbull Center for the COLAB orientation, my mind has pretty much been a giant whilwind of information, experiences, insights, advice, realizations, etc. etc. etc. SO, it’s been somewhat comical to me to read my blog posts because it SEEMS like I might be coming to some profound conclusions and understanding this crazy world around me, but that is by far not the case.
Anyway here are a few things I’m been thinking about/learning during the past 1 1/2 weeks:
Portland Discoveries:
21st & 23rd streets
Acai smoothies
The Mississippi Street Fair
Continually discovering that it’s the smallest world out there, I have the strangest connections with the most random people, and again, I have this habit of running into the most random people in the most unlikely places (I’m going to blog about that later)
Nightlife! (I liked Eugene because it hate a nightlife that went last 11pm, but hated it because it usually involved plenty of excessively drunk people, Salem didn’t necessarily have the drunk people (at least they remained in the shadows), but was also more or less dead by 11 pm. In Portland, there’s a whole plethora of nightlife options, dancing, sitting outside a bar with a drink people watching, etc.
Speaking of – PEOPLE WATCHING has been amazing up here!!
The fact that there is never a dull moment – festivals, fairs, concerts, lectures, art shows, sporting events, networking events, anything and everything is happening ALL the time up here.
Wireless internet is never reliable
I thought I could avoid the bike-riders, at least for 6 weeks. Wrong. People ride like crazy around here
Revalations/Realizations:
Take your camera with you wherever you go.
Never miss an opportunity to talk with someone and hear what he/she has to say.
I’ve realized that I’m a grammar Nazi. I know that for sure, I am no grammar connoisseur and I make pleanty of mistakes; however, matching noun with pronoun in a sentence seems to be alot more troublesome for people than I thought.
A powerbook doesn’t seem heavy until you tote it around Portland on a daily basis.
After living in Linfield dorms, I’ve confired that UO officially has the worse dorms.
Don’t judge a book by it’s cover – I defintely made some assumptions of eROI that I can now see were clearly completely offbase. As I’ll be beginning the job hunt, I’m glad I was able to realize this early in the game or else I know I would have elimited some places that are actually pretty sweet.
Surround yourself with people/things that are inspiring. If it’s not inspired or pushed to do great things, you probably need a change.
Jumping in with both feet is the best way to learn and only way you’re going to get better. Take risks, act first, apologize later (I liked this one), don’t be afraid to say know, in the end, everything is relative, and the earlier you can be organized and find a balance, the sooner you will succeed.
Read anything and everything.
Take time to travel. Never put yourself into a situation where you can say, I wish I would have done _____, I wish I would have tried_____, I wish I would have said____, etc. AKA Take time to do what’s most important to you.
Always be curious and ask questions.
Networking is huge. Knowing people is just as important to producing great work.
Have fun, but be responsible and gain the trust of those around you.
Use your resources and don’t burn bridges, as everyone knows everyone in this industry.
