Damali Ayo – Crow Clothing – great speaker.  Felt like I was watching our Sameunderneath presentation, but either way, she was a fabulous speaker, extremely captivating (hmm, Ryan anyone?!)

And then there was Jelly Helm.  I’m pretty sure within 30 seconds, the entire audience fell in love with him.  He was such a great speaker, down to earth and had extremely relevant points.

  • How to give a speech: say what you know to be true
  • Advice: Don’t read Chomsky.
  • Successful brands in the 21st century:  aren’t created by agencies!  Created by direct experience because experience doesn’t lie.

Megan and I agreed that that basically everything Jelly said in his presentation was everything we have been wanting to say about branding/advertising but haven’t been able to put it into words.  And now Jelly is leaving Wieden.  And now I’m reevaluating my entire life plan.

All in all, great conference – major kudos to Steve Gehlen for making this happen!

I haven’t used it enough to really know. Seems like those who are really using it as a tool have really benefitted from it. Best thing? Nahh.. I think that all varies from person to person. YOU?

When I went to the PDX Mindshare, I met Amber Case, “Cyborg Anthropologist,” and she shared with me a thing done with twitter that tracked tweeting during a lecture and put the frequency of tweets onto a graph. When the guy was saying something interesting, the tweets grew like loudness on a sine wave. Pretty crazy stuff. I don’t know if I agree that Twitter is going to be “the best thing” in web socializing, though. I think it hasn’t been well known long enough to be established as a post-fad tool. I personally find it a little mindless, but maybe I just haven’t been shown how to make it worth my time yet.

If you don’t use it for its intended function “What are you doing?”, but use it as a networking tool or a place to discover new and informative things online than it becomes very useful.

Yeah it is called twitter feed. There is also a facebook app that links your updates to your facebook page.

Yup, Amberis hardcore into twitter.At cre8camp this weekend people were tweeting like crazy (at one point, it was the 2nd most…tweeted? thing on twitter at the moment!)

I’m still trying to figure it out, but the 2 extremely attractive things I’ve discovered about it thus far is:

1. Provide updates for what’s happen “right here right now”:
Ex. on facebook you can post events, but people forget about them, on twitter people can be informed about an event in real time. So, this weekend, at cre8camp during breakout sessions, people were tweeting about session topics and so everyone could know what was being discussed in each room – this way they could attend whichever discussion they found most interesting. PDX Pop Now also had a twitter which was actually a pretty sweet marketing tool as I continually was reminded of the event which I otherwise would have forgot about…

2. Info Database:
It’s kinda like a condensed/succinct basecamp…again, at cre8camp whenever someone suggested a good website/blog/program, etc., someone would tweet it – well now we can go back through the #cre8camp group and find these links…

Regardless of this, still not sure if I subscribe to the whole twitter world, but I suppose in theory, it’s pretty sweet…

week two, last day roundup

dfGoodbye eROI! I had a fabulous 2 weeks and I was actually quite sad to say goodbye – I really appreciate the generosity and willingness to include me and hopefully they enjoyed me as much as I enjoyed them!! Melissa and Bryan are the next two interns to be at eROI and I think they are going to fit in wonderfully. I’m off to Anvil as of Monday, so I’ll let you know how that goes in a few days…

Anyway, today was action packed. After work today, I headed over to dMob with some other CoLab-ers, which was another great opportunity to meet all sorts of people – it was up a Tabor Park which is a beautiful place. We ran into Leticia, Heather and Mason at dMob which was fabulous (and p.s. have we ever said how wonderful everyone from PAF has been to us?? If not, now it’s known!!)

Best advice of the day came from Leticia Kleinberg: The best way to get a job is to already have one – it’s like being in a relationship – you are so much more desirable when you’re taken…

From there, I went with Christine to a client meeting out in Beaverton which is when all of the craziness began…

Dressing up is fabulous, but nothing beats the ability to wear flip flops to work!!!

COLABers Unite!!

This will be short and sweet: the CoLab-ers all got together last night at the PDX mindshare event – quite the experience and fabulous way to network, make contacts, etc.  Aftewards, Allison (project manager from Lattice) and I had a quick meeting to compare and share research results both teams have gathered thus far.  Aftewards, we all got dinner at ChaChaCha’s (good food, I was super excited for pastor meat…it was alright…def. nothing like my beloved Queretaro Pastor, but not bad)…we went to a nearby park to eat and then split our separate ways for team meetings!

Everything with Kiwi is going well, we have a plan of action for out meeting tomorrow and go from there!  After the meeting, Christine and I “worked” which of course we didn’t because after a long day, focusing becomes a struggle.

Interesting sidenote though, we passed a ton of police horse…people? again last night – still weird for me – I am still trying to figure out, what do the police officers do if they are trying to stop someone but the person runs?  Do they chase after them on horseback?  Tie the horse to a pole???  Does anyone know??

Anyway, ponder that while you look at some pictures from the evening…
